One of the best ways to see Washington, D.C., is on skates. Here's an intermediate loop that should take about two hours for tourists, starting and ending at the White House:
Along the way, you'll pass the Commerce Department, District Building, the Old Post Office, the Justice Department, the National Archives Building, the Federal Trade Commission, the Canadian Embassy, the National Gallery of Art and its East Building.
Along the way, you'll pass the Capitol Building, the Taft Carillon, house and senate office buildings, the Supreme Court, the Botanical Garden, the National Gallery of Art and its East Building, the National Sculpture Garden and Ice Rink, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Museum of American History.
Along the way, you'll pass the Holocaust Memorial Building and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and will get a panoramic view of the Tidal Basin.
Along the way, you'll see the outskirts of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and numerous ballfields.
Along the way, you'll see the Potomac River, Arlington Cemetary, Custis-Lee Mansion, and the Iwo Jima Memorial.
Along the way, you'll see Rosslyn, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom and George Washington University.
Please note that anyone who skates any route listed here does so at his or her own risk. Conditions, roads, traffic patterns, police zones, etc. can and frequently do change. Be vigilant, wear appropriate protective gear and obey all traffic signals. Have fun and skate safely!
