The most dramatic park feature is at Hains Point, "The Awakening" sculpture.

East Potomac Park is located in southwest Washington DC on the banks of the Potomac River. Ohio Drive runs along the perimeter of the park to Hains Point. The Hains Point loop is 3.2 miles.

The park features many of Washington's famous cherry trees, a public golf course, driving range and a miniature golf course. It also has picnic grounds, tennis courts, a large swimming pool, and biking and hiking paths by the water. Smooth new pavement has made it a great skating area.

On weekend afternoons in the late spring and summer, cars are not allowed to enter the loop road around the park. Many bicyclists and skaters take advantage of the lack of car traffic for a scenic ride.

As with any good thing, the main downside is it's popularity. Cherry Blossom season takes a heavy toll on this section of the park, and traffic and tourism during these few weeks are intense.

Parking in the evening is good but on weekends or during high tourist season it is scarce. Luckily, for skaters, there are several Metro stops close by.

East Potomac Park is the jalapeno-shaped peninsula in the middle of the map. Hains Point is at the southern tip of the jalapeno.

Flooding /Weather

This park is on the river, during high tide and after rain storms it may be under water. Avoid Hains Point on cold, windy days.
