Hi Nadia,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents to the advice you've already received about
Eddy Matzger's clinic. While I totally agree that it is a fantastic
experience learning to skate with Eddy, I believe you may get more out of it when
you are a little further along in your skating. It sounds like you are
pretty serious about learning how to skate and have already spent quite a bit
of time on wheels. But you are still relatively new to skating. Eddy is
really great and he does work with everyone at whatever level they are at,
but his expertise is really in Speed Skating technique.
Quite honestly, Eddy's clinics are expensive (a lot more expensive then
when I did it years ago!). I think at this point in your skating you might
get more out of taking "regular" lessons with a qualified instructor like
the ones at Skater's Quest. They are located in Va so if you're down there,
it may be pretty convenient for you. Visit them online at
_www.skatersquest.com_ (http://www.skatersquest.com) You can work on your technique and
make sure you've got the basics covered.
(Full disclosure: I don't work for Skatersquest, but I am a certified
instructor)
You might consider doing Eddy's clinic maybe next year if you continue to
skate as much as it sounds like you might. Everyone should do it at least
once if they love skating. Eddy is infectious and an amazing teacher.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a ton of fun skating.
Happy Skating,
Jane Beech
Certified Inline Skating Instructor

Thanks for your input and encouragement George and Chris!
I'm extremely excited about attending, I really enjoy inline skating so I
hope to soak everything in from this workshop.
We skate in a empty parking lot garage in NoVA (since it's a new
development) nobody has kicked me out yet :) I think I have a lot of training to do
before the workshop.
Your comments make a lot of sense I think this is the perfect opportunity
to work on achieving the proper technique and get rid of bad habits plus
it'll be a lot of fun!
This week I been trying to do the double- push but haven't been able to
get it yet. Hope the workshop will help with this.
Thanks again!!

and enthusiasm for teaching. He's a joy to be around.

Eddy's workshop and I suspect they have similar feelings toward the workshop.
In fact, some have taken his workshop more than once. You don't need to
be an advanced skater to participate in the workshop. Actually you stand to
benefit more from the workshop if you are not already an advanced skater.

greatly in terms of learning the best technique to strive for and eliminating
any bad habits you may have picked up before they become too ingrained.
It's important after the workshop to practice what you've learned during the
workshop. I didn't really do that since I was never a very serious speed
skater, but even in my case, my skating technique was better after the
workshop than it was before. Even now I have a notion of what I should be
doing, even though I may not be consistent in doing it.

waiting for an unwary skater to pass by. The monsters, some of who are
quite big-boned, love to get free rides to the top of the hill by latching
onto the back of the unsuspecting skater. And that is why it's always much
more work to skate up hill... They'll try to do this even if you don't have
the monster hook, but if you actually have a monster hook, well, it's like
you're just asking for it.
