It's the month of March and as everyone knows, in the world of sports that can mean one thing and one thing only:

That's right! It's time for the Cherry Blossom Bonspiel*.

The Eighth Annual Cherry Blossom Bonspiel will be held on March 25th through the 28th, at the National Capital Curling Center, located next to The Gardens Ice House at 13810 Old Gunpowder Rd., Laurel, MD 20707.

The first games begin at 7:15 PM on Thursday, March 25, 2010. Spectators, of which I will be one, are welcome to watch from the warm room. Feel free to join me unless you have something more exciting to do (and that's pretty hard to imagine, isn't it?).

Cheers,
George

* bon·spiel  (noun, \bnspl\):

A curling match or tournament.
curl·ing (noun, \ˈkər-liŋ\):
"The oddly-named and odd-looking sport that's kind of like bocce
but instead of being played in the back lot behind your local Sons of
Italy, it's played on ice with Swiffers® and Roombas® (with handles) and there's just a bit less standing around by the participants. As a
cardio workout, it's similar to vacuuming." -- http://usedwigs.com/curling/

Hi George,
Yes, spectators are welcome to view the Cherry Blossom bonspiel. We have a
warm room with seating and glass windows that will give you a view of
what's happening on the ice.

Games will take place Thursday night, Friday day and evening, Saturday
all-day, and Sunday morning (finals are typically held at noon Sunday).
The busiest day (when the warm room is most crowded) is Saturday. We have
a lot of warm room activities for curlers between games (contests, crafts,
meals), so if your schedule is flexible, there's a little more elbow room
on the weeknights or during the day, but you're welcome to stop in at any
time.

Otherwise, you're also welcome to spectate during league games. Good
times to come are as follows: Men's - Monday nights; Women's - Tuesday
nights; Mixed Competitive - Wednesday nights

Typically there are games most nights after 7:30 pm. Hope this helps &
we'll see you at the club!
