Bill,

Good call on canceling the skate today.  Thanks for posting the cancellation to the skate list and the www.skatedc.org calendar.

Wasn't really a close call today, but it's still very useful to get a cancellation to the skate list.

Our skate leaders make the final decision as to whether there is a skate or not.  That's why they get paid the big bucks ;-)

When it's a closer call I usually check out the traffic camera at http://trafficland.com/city/WAS/camera/9087/index.html, before I make a journey into town.  The camera at Pennsylvania Ave. and 17th St. is my favorite.   While you can't generally see the rain you can often see slick looking surfaces indicating the ground is wet.

I also like the weather-in-motion radar map at http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/USDC0001?animation=true, in addition to the hour-by-hour forecast available from weather.com:  http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/graph/USDC0001#.

Of course for those who live in DC, sticking your head out the front door works too.
