The skating season ratchets up into high gear this week with six, count 'em, six skates! Something for everyone: from the Friday Night Beginner's social skate, to the Formal 40-miler on the W&OD, plus the always popular 4th of July Fireworks skate.
Tuesday Night (6/29/10) Slalom Practice/Class from 7:30 - 9:00 PM at the basketball court at Penrose Park (2200 6th St. South, Arlington, VA; a 3 block walk to Metro bus 16A/B/J to Pentagon City Metro).

Saturday Morning (7/3/10) Formal 40, arrive by 7:30 AM, leaves 8 AM from the Red Caboose in Vienna, VA (http://www.skatedc.org/resources/skatespots/caboose.html), led by Jubran Selim. Set your own distance goal, 40 miles is only nominal (plus that distance just sounds good with Formal).

Saturday Noon (7/3/10) Rock Creek Park Clinic, from 12 noon to 1:30 PM at Rock Creek Park, led by Danny Donoghue. Please see the "Free Lessons" link at www.skatedc.org for more details.

Sunday Night (7/4/10) 4th of July Fireworks Skate, leaves 7 PM from the White House, led by Carl Ford. An easy skate around town before getting into position to view the fireworks, which should launch around 9:15. Following the fireworks, drinking and eating at a location to be determined.
This information and additional details are available on the www.skatedc.org calendar and also at http://www.meetup.com/Washington-Area-Roadskaters/
WAR skates are held if no precipitation is occurring and the road surface is dry or drying. However, the final decision as to whether a skate will be held rests solely on the best judgment of the skate leader.
Happy skating,
George
