Remember this one? Doing it again today. May simplify it some, depending on who comes out to skate.

Skaters,
The route today was pretty good, except there was a difficult bike path at mile 5.2 (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3142622). Had to duck under low tree branches there, then descend a steep hill then go back up a steep hill on rough pavement. I got through that without any trouble but one of the skaters fell and got some minor scrapes. Then others chose to walk down the hill on the grass then cross over to a nearby sidewalk with stairs. On the way back we got going fast downhill on Clarendon Blvd and were able to run some red lights because the morning cross traffic was so light. George, Jackeline and I enjoyed that part a lot, even though we had a lot of cars to deal with on Clarendon Blvd itself. Everyone seemed to enjoy visiting the Skate Park, the Lyon Village Splash Park, the Dog Park, The Corner Bakery, the Key and Theodore Roosevelt Bridges, and one of the sportiest sections of the Mount Vernon Trail. We did not get back to the White
House early enough to visit the Advanced group, but we could have if we had skipped the Bakery and Wallgreen's visits.
Participants were David from Mexico (who visits us a couple of times each year), Celine, Soren, George, Jackeline and me. David hopes to come out skating again on Wednesday and Friday before leaving town. Thanks for joining me with a test-run of a new route.
While we were enjoying an outdoor table at the Corner Bakery, we talked about how the advanced and intermediate Sunday groups usually combine during the winter months. Since we have a new bunch of regular Sunday Intermediate skaters this year, we might try something different this winter. I mentioned that sometimes we go out as a combined group but later split so some can take a shorter route home. Head Skate Leader George will figure it out for this winter.
Bill

Skaters,
I want to try a new 11 mile route for the Sunday Intermediate. Point of interest are the skate park at 13th and Rhode Island, Lyon Splash Park in Arlington where we can cool off after some hill climbing, a dog park, and Theodor Roosevelt Island. Here is the map:
