Well, while we all are on the subject of kudos, (word I did not know before
I read it from you - 'cause my french language - I understood it is a
praising remark...): Many praising remarks to you, George, especially for
your chronicles.
They are small gems of a beautiful literary flavour, they are a pleasure to
read, full of lively and interesting details and humour.
You have a gift to transform even the smallest event or point of view into a
journey of ideas and feelings !
I am too far from DC most of the time unfortunately, but you keep on making
me feel connectd to the wonderful world of WAR!
I hope you continue with your texts, and PLEASE, don't make them any
shorter!
Happy skating!
Céline

Subject: [SkateDC] Growing the Friday Night Skate
One of the reasons we're seeing more people come out on the Friday Night
Skates is due to the efforts of Tina Dodge. Plenty of people have good ideas
about encouraging new people to come out and skate. I know that because I
can recall many conversations about that very topic over the years. But
unless those ideas are pursued, they remain just that, ideas.
Not only does Tina have good ideas she implements them. Case in point is the
favorable coverage we received today from the Washington Post. That was
Tina's doing.
Another case in point. Our meetup group:
http://www.meetup.com/Washington-Area-Roadskaters/
I can remember talking about doing something with meetup for over a year.
Yada, yada, yada, but nothing ever really happened because I never actually
did anything with it. Tina came along and we now have a group there with 63
members. Now we get new skaters for our Friday Night Skate from that source.
So joining Michael I'd like to say kudos to Tina, our WAR publicity office
;-)
And speaking of bringing new people to the Friday Night Skate, I notice
we're getting some roller derby girls coming out. Thanks to Bill and Deb for
reaching out to that untapped community.
While we're tossing kudos around it seems we've had another successful Skate
DC Weekend and that wouldn't be the case without Carl. From the hotel
arrangements, to publicity, to the House of Brews, to any number of behind
the scenes things that keep the organization running, it just doesn't happen
without Carl.
Thanks also to our treasurer Susan for keeping us on the straight and
narrow. We are still on the straight and narrow, aren't we Susan?
Thanks to Danny and Joe for helping ensure there is a next generation of
skaters with the Skate Clinic at Rock Creek Park.
And nearly last but most definitely not least, our wonderful skate leaders
without which the club simply ceases to exist: Jeffrey, David, Kent, Carl,
Bill, and our newest skate leader, Jackeline. Also kudos to Cliff for his
Slalom Lessons and Practice sessions on Saturday mornings.
Finally thanks to all the skaters who come out to skate without whom it
would all be pointless. Special thanks to those who came out to sweep and
assist with the skates during Skate DC Weekend, you all helped make sure our
guests had a great time.
And thanks to all the unsung heroes I forgot to thank because it's one AM
and I'm about ready to nod off.
It feels very nice to be part of something that's growing rather than
shrinking.
As fun as it is skating with 20 people on a beautiful Friday Night, it's
even more exciting to skate with 40.
There are a lot of good ideas floating around out there waiting for a
champion to turn them into reality.
If you have ideas about how we can continue to grow, want to become more
involved, have criticism of things we aren't doing particularly well, please
let us know.
Happy skating,
George

Hope to see everyone out there. Now that all 8 out of my 8 wheels spin, I
might even see some of you over my shoulder tonight.
Nice coverage in The Post too. Kudos to the WAR publicity office.
