[SkateDC] Sunday Intermediate Skate Route for August 1, 2010

There is a chance of rain, so I will check the radar before we depart and, if
necessary, use a route that allows Metro Train bail-out. If no rain we will
adjust the skate route to the level of skaters who show up. I want to make it an
extra fun route because Anne from Philadelphia may be skating with us.

If things work out, I will use a long route to Silver Spring so we can view the
Shark Week decorations on the Discovery Channel Headquarters building. The
return trip would then be downhill through Rock Creek Park on Beach Drive, which
has no cars on Sunday. There is now a better way to climb out of Rock Creek Park
because a new bike trail has been built next to Blagden Road. If we do this
route we probably will be a little late getting back and will not get to visit
with the 11am advanced skaters at the White House.

There are two other new things to see in Silver Spring. Veteran's Plaza has
opened, and it features an ice rink which is also a servicable concrete roller
rink in the summer. In addition, a "skate spot" has opened a few blocks from
there in a vain attempt to keep the skateboard kids out of Veteran's Plaza. It
is a good-looking skate spot, but too small to keep skaters amused for an
extended time period.
