[SkateDC] Screen on the Green (7/12/10) Goldfinger [Off Topic]

After successful weather negotiations on Sunday, I find myself in a greatly diminished bargaining position today. We've stopped arguing about whether it's going to rain tonight and moved on to the topics of when and how much.
As near as I can tell the chance of precipitation by 10 pm is 100%. The weather radar map looks like the aftermath of a middle school cafeteria food fight on lime jello day. The traffic cams paint a pretty dismal picture as well. Even my tiki rain god figurine looks like he's scowling at me tonight.
Unpromising indeed!
While they will proceed with the film in the event of rain, they will stop the film if there is the threat of lightning. The forecast calls for thunderstorms tonight and I would not be surprised if that included lightning as thunderstorms are wont to do. And wouldn't it be pretty terrible if say James Bond were captured by Goldfinger and he were tied to a table underneath an industrial laser which slowly began to slice the table in half..... and then.... the projector stops, the lights come on, and they announce that due to the presence of lightning the film is canceled.
So I will not be there tonight.
Hope to see everyone next Monday night for "Goodbye Girl," which is actually a fairly entertaining movie.
Regrets,
George

Looks like rain ... a few drops in SW
DC in the last hour.
Still seeing a few
drops.
Looks "Un-promising."

Age is not a particularly interesting subject. Anyone can get old. All
you have to do is live long enough.

Monday, July 12 - GOLDFINGER. Sean
Connery stars as 007 in #003 of the James
Bond series.
Considered one of
the best of all Bonds, it was loosely adapted from Ian
Fleming's
1959
novel. (1964) 111 Min. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058150/)
Once
again I will be staking out space with blue and gray tarps as close to front and
center (with respect to the screen) as possible when I arrive sometime before 7
pm. I will try to set up here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3867485
center of the screen as close to the gravel sidewalk in front of the screen as
possible. I will be wearing blaze orange. I will NOT have my mobile
with me (at least for the first film) because it is completely
non-functioning. The film should start sometime after sunset (8:34
pm).
The weather should be warm and humid, typical for SotG, but there's
almost no chance of rain.

Let
me know if you're coming (and how many you are) so I can reserve the proper
amount of space.
The location is the National Mall west of 4th Street,
between Madison and Jefferson Drives.
Closest Metro stations are
Archives/Navy Memorial, Smithsonian and
L'Enfant
Plaza.
Parking: I'm recommending parking at L'Enfant Promenade
where free on-street parking opens up at 6:30 pm. You can probably get
closer (it's at least a 6 block walk) but there should be spaces available there
and I hate driving around looking for
parking.
Cheers,
George
