The Players: Caitlin, Sarah (her first skate with WAR!), Sabina, Jackeline, Tina, Dan, Bill, Jonathan, Ira, Ivan, and George.
Weather was very nice (could have been a little less humid.... working on that for next time ;-).
The route took us out to the Anacostia Skate Pavilion while totally avoiding Pennsylvania Ave., which has so been done before. The Mary Livingston Ripley Garden, the underpass below Southwest Freeway, and Lower Senate Park fountain seemed to be well received. An Amtrak train passed by just as we were skating on the platform of the L'Enfant VRE train station, something that couldn't have been planned. Unfortunately, we got to the Skate Pavilion too late to catch the DC Rollergirls roller derby demonstration, but were there to catch part of the question and answer period. Turns out Rollergirls train hard and practice frequently (three times a week).
I now know why we always skate along the eastbound lanes of the 11th Street Bridge, the pathway along the westbound lanes is very narrow. Also, once you do get across the Anacostia you are faced with two rather unattractive options: descending a mosquito-infested staircase, or skating down a pathway that's seen much better days. Next time we'll skate on the eastbound side.
It was a fun skate for me. Thanks everyone for coming out.
Cheers,
George

Just thought I'd point out that after some very tough negotiations during which I had to threaten to walk out several times, I was able to secure some pleasant weather for Sunday: sunny, temperatures between 78 and 84 degrees, a nice breeze out of the NNW at 8 mph, and most importantly, absolutely no chance of precipitation. I did, however, have to make somewhat painful concessions on the humidity, which will range from 58% to 46%. Will try to do better next time ;-)
Cheers,
George
