When George writes about a Skate Across, DC, MD or VA I just see his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. (Where did that saying come from anyway?)

Carl,

You let the secret out!  I was saving that for the Skate Across DC (22 times!) Skate.  LOL

These are novelty skates, nothing more.  Like the Skate of all 50 State Streets in DC or the All Night Skate we used to do.  It can be fun to skate in weird places we don't usually go.  The Skate Across Maryland is actually a pretty nice skate though.  Especially as it can be combined with skating on the WMRT.  The Skate Across Virginia looks more like a one-time-only, been-there-done-that type of thing.

A real skate across a state takes much more planning.  The closest I've ever come to that is the Skate Across New Jersey (although it must be said we started in Cherry Hill and stopped short of the beach at Atlantic City).  Do they still do that skate?  I remember it was kind of fun, when I wasn't hallucinating from thirst.

Cheers,
George

I would respectfully make the argument that skating on a road that
cuts across a corner of a state is not a skate _across_ a state.  By
that measure, every time you cross the Wilson Bridge on its bike path,
you have skated across the District of Columbia.
