Thanks for the report, Nini.  Hains Point always gets a little hinky around the 4th of July.  It may have something to do with the fireworks.  I believe in previous years the fireworks have been stored there prior to bringing them to the launching grounds between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Reflecting Pool.  If anything goes wrong I guess its better to have a smoldering crater at Hains Point than on the National Mall ;-)

So, we'll head out to Hains Point as usual on Friday and if it's still closed, as it probably will be, then we will hang a left on Buckeye Dr, a right (east) on Ohio Dr up to the closed gate, back west on Ohio Dr to 14th St overpass, back east on Ohio Dr, right on Buckeye Dr., right on Ohio Dr again and onto the Lincoln Memorial.  Sort of make a loop out of the divided roadway portion of Ohio Dr. along the Washington Channel side of the peninsula.

This still gives us an additional two mile option at Hains Point (instead of the usual additional three miles).  As always, skaters will have the option to wait at Ohio Dr and Buckeye Dr for the more ambitious skaters to return from their extra loop ;-)

Hey guys, just a heads up for Friday night skate...I won't be in town but I
did go skate Hains Point both Monday (right after the storm) and Wednesday
evenings this week, and the main parts of the roads were closed. At first, I
thought it was because of the storm, maybe it knocked over a tree or what
not but both entrances were closed as of last night as well...maybe they are
preparing for the 4th? Anyways, thought I'd let ya'll know.
