[SkateDC] Membership Meeting This Evening at 7

D'oh! I completely forgot about the snow. My bad.
Looking at the trafficland.com cameras in DC it doesn't look like there's much, if any, on-street parking to be had. Or, to put it another way, Mr. Snowbank is racking up one heck of a parking fine, unless he has diplomatic immunity.
The problem with Metro is that stations with parking tend to be above ground and are therefore still closed, while the stations below ground which are open don't tend to have any parking (Catch 22, subpart 2.b).
And that was before the Metro derailment at Farragut North (http://wmata.com/about_metro/news/PressReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=4317). As a result Major Delay has resumed command of the Red Line (at least the western branch) for the rest of the day.
Since under the best of circumstances we don't usually get into trouble with the Fire Marshall for exceeding the maximum capacity at our winter meetings, maybe it's worthwhile to consider another postponement. Not because it's impossible for people to get to the meeting, as Carl pointed out there's a paid parking lot right next to Cap City, but it seems likely that this evening might set records for lowest ever attendance at a WAR winter meeting. Maybe I'm wrong and people will come out tonight. But it seems to me that we would be likely to have higher attendance if we postponed until the weather situation works itself out. It would be very gratifying for more people to become more involved in the club, and it would be unfortunate if the snow situation dampened whatever budding enthusiasm might be trying to push it's tender little shoot up from the ground.
Just my $0.02.
Cheers,
George

George, et al,
For those who haven't seen the parking conditions in downtown DC
today, avoid it at all cost!!! There are almost no downtown parking
spaces as they are being used to store large piles of snow. Likely a
snowmobile would be a great option, but more realistically, the Metro
from outlying areas with better parking would be your best choice.
Best,
Greg

For example, anything that is both east of 11th St. and north of L St, should be unaffected by the change in the parking regulations.
