Hi Folks!
I'd love for you to join me on Saturday afternoon April 17, for a hike in Marshall's honor.
This year we'll go to a kid-friendly, dog-friendly place: Teddy Roosevelt Island in North Arlington. It's located just off the GW parkway heading north.National Park Service Web site http://www.nps.gov/this/index.htm
Let's meet at parking lot at Teddy Roosevelt Island around 2 p.m, and then head into the park. Be aware that parking may be scare in the lot right next to the island, so you may want to consider parking in Rosslyn and the walking over.
For our post-hike festivities, I've made reservations for 10 people at Pialo, in Rosslyn, for 3 p.m. I'm hoping that we can just show up and add more seats, if there's than 10 people.

Please pass this email onto anyone you think might be interesed.
And, if you think you'll be joining me at Piaolo, can you email me so i can get a better count ad adjust the reservation accordingly. Thanks!
Hope to see you on Friday or Saturday. And, if not, then skate fast and think of Marshall "Skatewolf" Brown this weekend.

It's been two years since the passing of Marshall Brown, who meant a great deal to the Washington Area Roadskaters having been a good friend to many in the club, in addition to being a longtime skate leader and president of our group. Please join Karin Brown for a special skate this Friday, April 16, 2010, in honor of Marshall. Everyone is most welcome to join us whether you knew Marshall or not. Marshall loved skaters and skating so the more people who come out the better it will be. If you enjoy skating with WAR, Marshall was one of the people responsible for making that a reality.
The skate leaves the White House at 7 pm, and will follow the regular new route. It's become something of a tradition to remember Marshall's adventurous spirit with a skate near the anniversary of his passing. As usual we'll stop by Froggy Bottom Pub at the end of the skate for food and drinks. There will be a toast in Marshall's honor at some point in the evening, but please remember that you can NOT bring any outside alcohol into Froggy Bottom Pub (no joke, I'm quite serious about that, Hien will kill me if this happens again). On the other hand, if someone happened to have a little "apple juice" on them and some cups when we stop where the Awakening Statue used to be at the tip of Hains Point, well I suspect no one would have any complaints about that ;-)
Then on Saturday, the actual anniversary of Marshall's passing, Karin is planning to do a hike on Teddy Roosevelt Island in early afternoon around 1 p.m., followed by late lunch/hanging out and celebrating Marshall style at some restaurant in Courthouse/Clarendon. Details to be determined this week. If you'd like to join, please send her an email: karinwillnerbrown at yahoo.com or klwbrown10 at gmail.com. She would love to see a group of friends come out and do a bit of a hike in Marshall's honor.
We do miss our Skatewolf! Hope you can make it one or both of these events.
George
