Hey Patrick,

Good question.  The FNS leaves from just in front of the White House on Pennsylvania Ave. (the portion that is closed to traffic between 15th and 17th Streets) at 7 PM.

The skate is 8 or 10 miles long depending on whether you opt to skate all of Hains Point or not.

We basically do a circle around the National Mall as follows:
White House --> Ellipse --> Capitol --> Washington Monument --> Hains Point (West Potomac Park) --> Lincoln Memorial --> Froggy Bottom Pub -->  White House

We have arranged to have perfect skating weather this Friday, so hope to see you out the White House at 7pm.

Normally, all this information would be available on our website www.skatedc.org, but the calendar appears to be on vacation.  I hope it comes back tanned and rested, unlike last time when it came back with a nasty sunburn and we couldn't do a thing with it for more than a week.

If arriving by car, parking on Pennsylvania Avenue, west of the White House (17th St and higher) becomes free starting at 6:30 PM.

Cheers,
George

Sorry if this has been covered but where does the Friday night beginner skate take you and how far is the skate?

Thanks in advance.

Patrick

Wednesday Night (9/2/09) Advanced Skate, leaves 7 PM from the White House, led
by David Churchill.

Friday Night (9/4/09) Beginner Skate, leaves 7 PM from the White House, led
by George Marinkovich or anyone who remembers the route from last time.

Saturday Morning (9/5/09) Slalom Practice, 9 - 10:30 AM, at Washington & Lee
H.S. parking deck in Arlington (near Ballston Mall), led by Cliff Anckaitis.

Sunday (9/6/09) Intermediate Skate, leaves 9 AM from the White House, led by
George Marinkovich.

The
Sunday (9/6/09) Advanced Skate, leaves 11 AM from the White House, led by
someone to be determined.? I will update this message when the skate leader is
confirmed.

WAR skates are held if no precipitation is occurring and the road surface
is dry or drying.? However, the final decision as to whether a skate
will be held rests solely on the best judgment of the skate leader.

See the www.skatedc.org website for additional information about upcoming
skates.

Happy
 skating,
George

Don't know if this is a good deal or not.? It's not like I'll be needing speed
skates anytime soon ;-)

The Cheetah's look to be an entry-level Bont.? If your current skates are too
comfortable on your feet, and you'd like to go faster than you do now, these
skates may address both of those problems.? If you're interested, check it out.

The Bont Cheetah is something for everyone with prices starting at only
$280.00.? Sizes
range from 1 to 13.5. Your choice of 2-point or 3-point frame.? Choose
the package just right for you or your little one.? Packages with 80,
90, 100 or 110mm wheels.

Enjoy,
George
