Good Question:

The #1 (and really the only) reason that Bars and Restaurants don't let us in is due to Liability. The owner needs to weigh the economic benefit of having skaters in vs. having to deal with Liability issues. I have never heard of a skater that fell on a restaurant premise and sued - and I'd like to keep it that way.

Hence - Big Chain Establishments (franchises) which have Mucho capital ($$) tend to be much more wary when it comes to Liability - so places like TGI Fridays, and the such are not good places to look.

Family owned places like Froggy are much better becuse you work with the CEO an Chief Decision Maker for the place, and they tend to be on a tighter budget so a group of 15 comming in twice a week to drop Close to $100 is an enticing offer.

Froggy came about because Jethro Jones, Myself, and Mike Borger wandered into the place on 12/31/99 around 3:30pm looking for a beer while on skates and it was dead empty. I spoke with Heung and I said "WAR will give you weekly business if you let us in on skates." (This was at the same time that Dove and Rainbow was going out of business - so I new we were looking for a space) When she agreed I rewarded her (as the WAR President/Board member) by hosting the WAR Winter Party there. WAR tips the waitress very well, and Heung loves the fact that we generate automatic business on one of her slow nights (wed.) She has never discussed liability with us, and I'm not going to bring it up.

I think the best bet is to get a small group of people (all skaters), find a suitable joint to "hit-up", go in for a late day bite (on sunday afternoon when it isn't busy) and ask if a manager/owner is around. Tell them who we are and what we are looking for. If they agree, let's make plans to frequent that place and give them fair warning. Once the precedent is established, and our first 35% tip goes out - I'll bet they will let us back in. Unless David asks for a Lilly Pad, then we'll beat him up.

When it comes to counter offers, or enticements we don't want to get into that. If they say no due to liability you say thank you for hearing us out, and, if you are pissed, let them know you won't frequent the place even if you aren't on skates. There are plenty of other places to try.

What I'd like to find is more of a dive bar that we can hit for inexpensive beer and good Music!!!
