Here's a few.
e.g., the icb lists (including the teamicb list)
are open to anyone who wants to join them,
with or without joining the icb. see
http://www.sk8net.com/about/communication.html
New England indoor inline skaters in particular would
find the discussions there relevant because they are
largely about skating in the local area.
There are also various ice club lists that those
club members contribute to, including Low Walk
(Bay State) and Montshire. These are however, typically
closed to non-dues-paying members.
There is also the MASF speed and fitness (mostly inline)
skating list run out of the DC/VA area. I also subscribe
to that - it's free and open to all.

There's also a new web site Michael Dyas put together
called http://www.racereports.net.
It has a racing schedule, reports from skaters who
were in races on their personal perspective of
what happened in the race, and a discussion forum,
http://www.racereports.net/forum/default.asp?Group=1
And, of course, there's an A2A list, which I subscribe to.
http://www.aprr.org/mailinglists/
I also wouldn't be surprised if IISA tries to start some
group discussion with its marathon initiative.
If you do want to go ahead and start a list, the MASF
model is likely the best, and it seems as if you are
indeed going in that direction.
Good luck!
tom

This sounds interesting, but I would like to know more. For starters how did
you get my e-mail address? What areas of the country does your club cover?
What are the cost(s)? What other benefits are offered?
