And what would the all night skate be without a stop at Eastern Market. Oddly enough at 4:45 a.m., no one was there. We then skated to the Capital and all the way down Constitution Ave. across the Memorial Bridge to the Iwo Jima. From there we watched the sunrise from the Netherlands Carillion (the bell tower) next to the IJ memorial.
The sun rose at 5:47 am. After sunrise we skated over the key bridge to M Street back to the White House.
If you missed the skate, you will probably have to wait until next year to experience the all-night adventure. Thanks Carl.
Sincerely,
John Rossetti

Carl,

Thanks for leading the all night skate. It was well worth staying up all night and totally disrupting the day yesterday.

For those of you who did not make it, the rain held all night, but it was very humid with temps probably no lower than the high 70's. After a typical Friday loop around the mall, we headed to Dupont Circle. From there we skated up Conn. and cross over to Wisconsin Ave. via Jennifer Street. Our destination was the Tastee Diner in Bethesda.

The owner of the diner let us in, but we had to enter and leave "en masse," for "liability" concerns. He was a bit paranoid and when we were about to leave instructed all the other patrons to remain seated until we existed from the diner. If you ever go there, ask for Gloria as your waitress. She may be may not be very pleasant or a model of hospitality, but she served George, Jubran, David, Stuart, and myself our food and check before the others were even served.

After the diner, we skated down Wisconsin to David Churhhill's house for a bathroom break. We then got back on Wisconsin and skated down to Mass. Ave. at 3:30 am. We took Mass Ave to DuPont (It's a good thing Jubran avoided hitting the marked Secret Service police car that turn left in front of him while Jubran was racing down Mass. Ave. at about 25-30 mph).

From Dupont Circle we went back to the White House where we dropped off the sleep heads. After leaving the White House we went to Union Station and quietly skated inside the station for a few minutes until a rent-a-cop showed up. We then quietly skated out.
