Four skaters skated from the White House to the Wilson Bridge, and
two drove down and met us at the VA side of the path. Three cyclists,
two (former?) skaters among them, joined us at Four Mile Run on the
way down.
When we got to the VA side of the bridge at 12:35, we saw that the
bridge was already open, so we skated to the MD side, where we picked
up commemorative T-shirts and maps. As the cyclists went to National
Harbor for lunch, the six of us on skates went a short distance up the
path on the MD side and found the bike convoy headed to the bridge
from that side.
One skater left early and the two car-poolers drove back to DC for
lunch, so that left three of us to skate back to the White House and
lunch with the car folks.
The path is very wide for most of its length. The concrete on the
Virginia side of teh bridge is still a little slippery and there are
some expansion joints to negotiate, but the surface is otherwise
good. And except for the section along the water in Maryland, most of
the path is on an incline, either up or down.
