[SkateDC] Update: Access to the White House

I've been informed from someone in a position to know (I've always wanted to say that -- sounds so mysterious, doesn't it?) that the White House pedestrian mall is closed to entry from 17th Street. Access is still available from H Street through Lafayette Park, or from 15th Street. So unless things change between now and Sunday we should be able to meet at our usual spot for the start of the 11 am combined skate. Those of us in the habit of parking on Pennsylvania Ave. west of the White House will just have a slight detour to deal with; everyone else should be unaffected.
If we can't meet at our usual spot, it looks like the northern edge of Lafayette Park (along H Street) should be open, and would make a convenient first alternate meeting spot.
The Ellipse, however, may not be such a good second alternate meeting spot, as the cars that normally park there are being removed from that area, which will be used to stage parade floats, and it may be closed to the public.
No news about the Navy Memorial is probably good news.
So, for this Sunday, try these spots in the following order:
1. The White House (our usual spot).
2. Lafayette Park (the northern part along H Street).
3. The Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Thanks to our source for this access update. I hope he (or she) will keep us informed if there are any material changes.
Cheers,
George
