Hi Skaters,
We are exactly 2 weeks out from Barack Obama's inauguration. The party we are planning in San Francisco is shaping up to be bigger than I expected. It seems that network TV news thinks roller skating and disco/funk music is a very unique situation they would like to get in on. I am getting calls from radio and TV news wanting to come and wanting to know what charactors they will see. There is even a group at the Presidential Gala in Washington DC that wants to broadcast live video from our party into the their gala in DC!!! That means Barack and all the people there will be checking us out while they party the night away. We may wish we could be there, but they are going to wish they were here. The group is Link Americas. Check them out at http://www.linkamer icas.org/ gala2009. htm/
Remember this is a costume affair. Come as your favorite politician. I might come as a young Jesse Jackson with the big afro, or as Al Sharpton with the processed hairdo. We need Hillary, Sarah and of course George W. Let's get really creative and have fun with it.
I have everything all set in terms of music, lighting, skates and the party in general. I am going to need more help keeping things under control. This party will serve as the new beginning for our organization as a bonafide non profit organization. We will be reaching out for new members. We will showcase our plans to reinvigorate skating in San Francisco. We will release our 2009 events calendar. We will have 6 Sunday Streets events this year where miles of roads will be closed to cars for us to skate and play. The Napa Valley Inline Marathon will see hundreds of Napa residents joining us on the road so they can feel and discover the joy of skating the Silverado Trail as we do. Do you know the way to San Jose? It's a 50 mile roadskate from San Francisco coming back on CalTrain partying all the way. We showcase our plans to create a roller rink on San Francisco's waterfront and create programs for youth through ShapeUp San Francisco
and the Mayor's office. We will be coming out with the details on this and much more at the Ball on Jan 20.
