It's time again for one of the magnificent glories of living in the DC area, land of the free performance, concert, film, or what have you. This is truly one of the highlights of the entire year. Even if you're not a fan of opera (I'm told such people exist, but I'm not sure I believe it!), you won't want to miss the opportunity to come out to Nationals Park and luxuriate in the outfield. Walk, run, skip, hop, frolic and gambol about the outfield; you know you want to. Roll amongst the cool emerald green blades of grass and wallow in the smoldering embers of a fading summer (well, whatever, you get the idea). Then feast on one of the world's greatest operas: Rossini's "The Barber of Seville." The screen and sound system at Nationals Park are nothing less than spectacular, much better suited to opera simulcasts than you would imagine.
And if you feel you've seen the Barber of Seville before you probably have. For example, Woody Woodpecker does a creditable job with "Largo al factotum" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jv3lL6imzU) despite his sometimes irritating vocal mannerisms, but let's face it, when it come to opera buffa he just can't hold a candle to Bugs Bunny -- the one, the only, "Rabbit of Seville" (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2rjz4_bugs-bunny-rabbit-of-seville_fun).
Enjoy,
George
