There was a nice turnout for the 2nd in the series of Saturday Embassy Loop Skates, the Central Embassy Loop last Saturday. There were around 10 skaters, including: Fabio, Søren, Céline, Shaun, Lesly, Tom, MyeongHee, and Jose. And a new (to me) skater from Towson, whose name I can't come up with at the moment.
44 embassies were skated past, although I personally missed seeing about 3 of them: Angola (2108 16th St., http://tinyurl.com/ngmsos), Liberia (5201 16th St., across from the Fitzgerald Tennis Stadium), and Honduras (3007 Tilden St.). I can't explain how I missed Liberia since I knew where it was (since it was the site of a big party once when I was driving up 16th St, and we had to have skated within a couple feet of a big plaque
announcing the name of the embassy). I missed Honduras because we didn't cross Connecticut on Tilden to where the embassy was (will change the route slightly for next time). Promise to make a special effort to see these embassies next time I do the skate. Suriname and Mauritious were located in the same large office building at 4301 Connecticut Ave and were the only two embassies I remember that weren't flying their flags.
It was a hilly route (but not as hilly as I had expected it to be), but at 15.8 miles it still took us about 3 hours to finish. It was a hot and humid day, but we managed to find a CVS when it was needed. By the way, the CVS had 20 oz. Gatorades on sale for $1, which was the same as the regular price at the Argyle Convenience Store in Mount Pleasant in the old days.
Cheers,
George
