[SkateDC] Ice Skate Jan 10 in Annapolis with B/A/D

I second Bill's recommendation regarding the BAD skates, which are actually very good.  I didn't realize at the time (although I should have) that the ice skate and dinner were scheduled for the same day.  Fortunately, as Bill pointed out, the times are such that you can do both if you wish.  Although as always, people from Virginia should be sure to check that their Maryland visas are in good order before they leave home.

Ice skating outside in the cold gives me a big appetite, but then come to think of it, so does sitting quietly in a warm chair reading a book.  But the more exercise you get, the more you get to eat, right?  I mean, that's the whole point of exercising, isn't it?

I guess Malibu Grill could be considered a "meaty" place, if by that one means a place where guests are offered a delectable selection of 10 daily grilled meats, served table-side by Brazilian-style "Gauchos," who, using conventional knives which they wear on their belts, slice thin and succulent pieces of prime meat that have been skewered and slowly cooked to perfection, which they then place in succession onto each person's plate.  If that's one's definition of a "meaty" place, then, well yeah, guilty as charged.

Malibu Grill does offer a gourmet salad bar, a picture of which can be seen here (http://www.malibugrillsteakhouse.com/menu.html).  But first you have to scroll past the picture of rodizio-style marinated and grilled meats skewered and slowly roasting to perfection over a smoldering inferno of embers.  And then keep scrolling past the mouth-watering descriptions of all ten of the tantalizingly tempting daily grilled meats.  And eventually... if you make it that far... you will come to the GOURMET SALAD BAR.

Upon reflection, I guess I can see where a vegetarian at a churrascaria might feel about as comfortable as... well, as a Republican at National Public Radio.  But I'm all about the diversity, so if someone wants to organize the next group dinner at a vegetarian restaurant, count me in.  Especially if it's an Indian vegetarian restaurant!

Seriously, most vegetarians will not be turned away at the door of Malibu Grill, and if you do manage to make it inside past the Beefeaters guarding the entrance, you can simply leave your wooden indicator red-end up, and you will probably not be accosted by the Gauchos with their thin and succulent pieces of marinated prime meat which they slice at your table-side from skewers that have been slowly cooked to perfection over a smoldering inferno of embers.  As far as I know, they're not looking to make any converts.

So by all means: skate, eat, and repeat.  It may be a vicious cycle, but at least it's fun.

Cheers,
George

Patricia has been using MeetUp.com to organize inline skating events on the
second Saturday of each month. In October, November, and December she has led
fun skates around BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. George Marinkovich, Joe Schlag,
Tom Huff, and I have all been out with Patricia, and she came out to skate with
WAR on Dec 7th. Some of the Rollerquest skaters have also joined her. Patricia
is a strong skater and fit right in with the fast guys on the big hills of
Georgetown and the Embassy Loop.

Since many of the people who RSVP'ed for the Dec 13 skate around BWI
cancelled due to the cool weather, Patricia wants to try an ice skating event
for January. She picked a nice place to do it, since the large, uncrowded
outdoor rink at Quiet Waters State Park has just been renovated. It will be fun
after skating to make the short trip to downtown Annapolis for some
refreshments. Maybe Patricia will select a vegetarian place to give skaters an
alternative to the extremely meaty place George selected for a group dinner on
the same day! Or you can squeeze in both events if ice skating gives you a big
appetite.

You can get to know Patricia better if you sign up for MeetUp.com. It
doesn't cost anything. I also talked her into joining the many Washington
skaters who are already in Facebook.
