Membership Details
WAR membership begins on April 1st and expires on March 31st of the following year. The fee is $25 ($15 if you are joining after October 1st).

Weekly skates are free, and non-members are welcome to participate. In fact we want you to try a skate before you join. In addition we provide the skatedc mailing list and this website free for anyone who wants to read and participate.

If all of this is free, why pay for a membership?
A fundamental reason for joining is the power of association. As a group we contribute more to the skating community than we could individually. We can also lobby as a political entity, representing skaters on local projects (e.g., parks and streets) and influence local laws that reference skating. We also negotiate with local establishments for member discounts, and may solicit promotional donations (e.g. swag) from corporations that want to increase their profile in the skating community. We often raffle off these items at special WAR events.

Another reason to join WAR is because we are able to organize skating and social events. We often host clubs from other cities providing a forum for meeting other skaters and, when you skate in other cities you will have a WAR shirt...always a conversation starter.

Where does your money go?
Membership money is used to buy expensive gifts for the secret flings of board members. Just Kidding: WAR is a membership-based 501c3 tax-exempt non-profit organization that depends upon membership fees for its primary renenue. The money provides stability and pays for the administrative costs of operating the club, organizing special events, and providing member benefits. Budget items vary from year to year but usually include:

• Shirts
• Operating expenses and association fees.
• Mailing and printing costs
• Social events, such as the winter party and summer barbeque.
• Skate Patrol Sponsorship
• Contests, awards, raffle items, etc.
• A WAR sponsored trip

Benefits
Your WAR membership card may among other things, result in:

• Discounts at local skate shops (see the Sponsors Page for details),
• A 10% discount on all lessons through Skater's Quest.
• A cool-max T-shirt with trendy WAR graphics.
• Discounted prices to WAR special events such as the winter party and summer barbecue (check the special events page for details),
• Free raffle tickets for the Friday night Froggy Bottom Pub and special events raffles. Prizes include skates and other skate goodies.
• A partial payment of your National Skate Patrol (NSP) certification fee.

Are you interested in the Skate Patrol?
If you join the Skate Patrol, your membership pays for itself. WAR contributes $10 toward your Skate Patrol fee.

How to join WAR
At a special event
The easiest way to join WAR is to attend a party. Board members will have forms, and can accept your cash or check. (Membership cards may not always be available on the spot, but can be mailed to you.)

On a skate
Most board members participate in the regular skates. Use the link found below to print a copy of the form then complete it and hand it off with cash or check to a Board Member.

By mail
Print out a membership form (below) and return it to:
