| Your name here!! | We are seeking more leaders. Contact the head skate leader to sign up. |
Why should you be a skate leader?
The skate leaders are the glue that keeps the club together.
It has been
Jubran's
observation
that whenever leaders don't show, there in an ensuing loss of interest in the street skates,
and this after all is the primary function of the club. We can have BBQ's and raffles, and
give away T-shirts and prizes to add to the fun, but mostly, we want to skate. Although it is not impossible to have a street skate without a leader, there
seems to be a higher level of enthusiasm when there is one.
Leading a skate is the most direct way to have an impact
on how much pleasure
both members
and
nonmembers derive from the club. Although many leaders like to scout their own routes
(the hardest part of leading since it is time consuming), this is not a requirement to be a
leader. The club has a collection of routes used over the years, and these routes
are available to anyone who asks. Some of the club "elders" will assist new
leaders with the route-planning task.
Intermediate skaters, this your chance to be in control of the level.
To be a leader, all you need is to be a current WAR member, and preferably of intermediate
street-skating ability or better. Intermediate skaters would make ideal leaders for the
Sunday intermediate skate since it is a common complaint that these skates are too fast or too
long.
Many members are already skating regularly twice a week, so it would be no greater burden on your schedule to lead occasionally. Leaders are expected to lead one skate per month. Please consider contributing to the club by leading an occasional skate. The more leaders we have, the more variety we would ultimately have in our excursions. Contact the head skate leader for more information, training, and joining the rotation.
