Wed, 3   7:00pm Advanced/Intermediate Night Skate led by: Diane <dianedebernardo@yahoo.com>
Approximately 15 miles in 2 hours with hills, road traffic, some very dark spots, and some patches of bad pavement. It is surpisingly fun if you happen to be one of the survivors. Not recommended for people who strain to keep up on our Sunday Intermediate Daytime Skates. The Froggy Bottom Pub is normally the finish line. It is at 22nd Street and Pennsylvania Ave NW.

Thu, 4   6:40 PM NFL Kickoff Concert Skate led by: Emily <citiskate@yahoo.com>
They're expecting 300,00 people down on the mall on Thursday at 6 for the NFL Kickoff Concert.

I propose to make that 300,000 pedestrians and one rocking group of skaters!

We'll meet at the White House at 6:15 and will leave the WH at 6:45 or so. Street parking isn't really legal until 6:30 around there, so it might be better to Metro in. Also, traffic will be ghastly, so keep that in mind.

Anyway, this will be an easy, low speed skate, where our main goals are to get as close to the music as possible, have a little fun with the pedestrians and the closed roads and just enjoy the evening. Please wear your brightest shirts and blinkies so that you are easy to see and the group can stay together...

Please reply if you think you can attend.

5:30 p.m. - DJ Scribble and DJ Riz Perform Onstage
6 p.m. - Crowd Welcome Mayor of D.C., Joe Theismann and Joe Namath
6:15 p.m. - Redskins Cheerleaders Performance
6:25 p.m. - Good Charlotte
7:20 p.m. - Mary J. Blige
7:45 p.m. - Britney Spears
8:15 p.m. - John Madden and Al Michaels from FedEx Field
8:25 p.m. - Aerosmith
8:55 p.m. - Aretha Franklin performs the National Anthem

Sun, 7   11:00am Toned-down Advanced Tour led by: Jubran <sm4sm@aol.com>
Approximately 14 miles in 2 hours. The first Sunday of each month will have shorter, less hilly routes than the other Sunday tours during the whole 2003 season. WAR is relaxing the difficulty of these skates in order to encourage intermediate skaters to try advancing up to a new skating group. If we finish up early due to a lack of relatively slow skaters, we will go skate some more to cover at least two hours total.

Sun, 14   11:00am Intermediate Tour led by: J.B. <jbthemilker@aol.com>
Approximately 11 miles in 2 hours. The intermediate leaders are flexible because the enjoyment of all the skaters is more important than staying with a planned schedule. Sometimes there is a fast pace and sometimes there is a slower pace, depending on the skaters who show up. Often half the skaters break away and take a short-cut back to the parking area to skip the last few miles of the route. It is more of a work-out than a social skate, but those with hangovers can usually still enjoy it.
