Fri, 4   8:00 AM Formal 40 on the 4th
We'll skate the Washington & Old Dominion Trail (W&OD), starting in Vienna. We'll meet between 7:30AM and 8:00AM, and leave at 8:00AM. All levels are welcome, but each person will be on his/her own as far as finding a pack/paceline consistent with their own ability. If you are concerned about being left alone, come with someone of similar skill/ability.

We'll meet at the W&OD parking lot in Vienna, VA, by the Red Caboose.

This will not be like our street skates. We won't be stopping every 3 to 5 miles to regroup. This is primarily a training skate, and every person has different goals. We'll all be on the trail at the same time, but we'll be broken up into smaller groups of similar ability/training goals. Those who would be interested in a shorter distance are welcome to join as well. The format is to skate 20 miles out then 20 miles back so all skaters can choose their own turn-around points and head back to Vienna sooner.

Directions to the Red Caboose
Location: W & OD Trail, Vienna, Va (meet by the red caboose)

Fri, 4   7:00pm 4th of July Skate led by: John <jjrossetti@yahoo.com>
Although the 4th falls on a Friday this year, the skate will NOT be the traditional Friday beginner loop. The skating level will be much closer to the Sunday Intermediate level than the beginner level. The distance will be about 10 miles. I'll work on a Patriot theme. REMEMBER TO WEAR RED, WHITE, and/or BLUE CLOTHING. AND DON'T FORGET YOUR BLINKING LIGHTS/REFLECTIVE GEAR!

Last year we had prime viewing space at the Tidal Basin next to the FDR Memorial. We will try for that location again this year. After the Fireworks we will indeed end the skate at the Froggy Bottom Pub, as usual. It's a holiday, it's Friday, and we'll have just completed a skate!!

Intermediate approximately 9 miles in 2 hours, Advanced approximately 12 miles in 2 hours. The first Sunday of each month will have shorter, less hilly routes than the other Sunday tours during the whole 2003 season. Sat, 26   4:00 pm Empire Visits Lanskaters, WAR Invited to Join led by: Landskaters <info@landskaters.org>
Skate with NY skaters in Philly on Sat., 7/26--anyone from WAR care to participate?

After years of hosting Landskater trips to NY, Empire Skate is taking them up on their invitation to join them in Philly for an afternoon and evening of street skating. They are really pumped and have put together a new route just for this event, which includes a long expert level skate followed by cheese steaks.* Then regroup at 7pm for a patrolled intermediate-level skate at a moderate clip before heading home (approx. 10pm).

Those arriving by train will be met by Landskaters at 3:30 and escorted on skates from the 30th Street Train Station to the Art Museum. For those driving up, meet at the Art Museum (BenFranklin Pkwy & 26th St.) at 4:00 (meet at the top of the steps).

*The first to find the red stone buried in the South Philly sidewalk bearing the inscription 'On this spot stood Sylvester Stallone filming the great motion picture, Rocky in 1976' gets free steak!

NOTE: Helmets are required--they don't want us participating w/o them.
