Sat, 14   10 AM Havre de Grace Skate led by: Dhana Clark <skatewash@yahoo.com>
We plan to skate the city and end up at a seafood festival after
the skate. Details about the skate are here.

It should be a pretty easy skate in the sense that it will probably be neither
long nor fast. However, from what I've seen of Havre de Grace I wouldn't be
surprised if there were some hills. The seafood festival looks like it should
be good.

There are 10 RSVPs so far on meetup (6 Yes, 4 Maybe).

Havre de Grace is about 1 hour and 15 minutes north of the beltway on I-95.

Metro and Carpool Options (let me know before Saturday if you're interested in
either option):

I'm willing to pick up people (up to 3) from the Forest Glen Metro Station (Red
Line) at 8:20 am.

For carpooling we can meet at the commuter parking lot at the juncture of I-495
and I-95, leaving there at 8:30 am. This parking lot is only accessible from
I-495 and I-95. The parking lot is shown as location B on the following maps.

Directions for those coming from the inner loop of I-495

Directions for those coming from the outer loop of I-495

The weather promises to be nearly perfect on Saturday in Havre de Grace (partly
cloudy, temps in the 70s).

Sat, 21   9 AM West Embassy Loop Skate led by: George Marinkovich <skatewash@yahoo.com>
Everyone is invited on this intermediate skate of 12.8 miles I will be leading. It leaves from the White House on this Saturday (8/21/10) at 9 AM. I say an intermediate skate, but what it actually is an advanced skate route led at a rather slow (beginner's) pace, especially when we go uphill ;-) And yes, there are hills on this route. My guess is the skate will take about 2 and a half hours to complete, so we would be returning to the White House around 11:30.

We pass by the embassies of 53 countries on this skate, starting with Bosnia and Herzegovina and ending with Portugal. I won't be obsessive this year about pointing out the embassies; this year it will be just a skate that happens to pass by a lot of embassies. If you're curious about which embassies we will be passing by, I encourage you to print out the cue sheet which has the embassy addresses and country flags to help the compulsive spot all 53.

Sun, 22   9 AM Sunday Intermediate Skate CANCELED led by: George Marinkovich <skatewash@yahoo.com>

Regretfully, I'm CANCELING the Sunday (8/22/10) Intermediate Skate due to wet conditions. The trafficland dot com camera at 17th and Pennsylvania Ave shows wet streets at 7:53 and and given the cloudy and cool conditions it doesn't seem likely that the streets will dry by 9 am. In fact it seems likely to me that there might be even more rain during the skate, around 10:15 am.

Regards,
George

Sat, 28   11:30 AM Philly Landskaters DC Skate led by: K O Miller <kom@snip.net>
The skate will be 15-20 miles, led at an intermediate/advanced pace. We will gather at Froggy Bottom Pub at 4 PM for food and drink following the skate.

The Landskaters have chartered a bus to bring their 20-plus skaters down from Philly. WAR skaters are highly encouraged to come out in force for this event. We don't want to be outnumbered on our own turf, do we?

KO has led skates for many years in addition to having lived in DC for a time, so this should be a most interesting skate. Don't miss it!
